Pittville Campus village, located a mile away from the Francis Close Campus, is a flagship development that provides first year, international and postgraduate students wishing to stay in university managed accommodation, with a safe, well managed and high quality living environment.
The Cheltenham campus, which had previously been used for teaching and learning, was transformed into a student village providing a high-quality living environment for first year, international and postgraduate students.
The £57m project to transform the Pittville Campus in Cheltenham was designed to create a high-spec and vibrant scheme which would ultimately increase demand for places at the University of Gloucestershire.
As well as development of student accommodation, a refectory, bar, gym, study space and offices for over 100 members of University of Gloucestershire staff are integrated into this state of the art development.
Bouygues UK was appointed by The University of Gloucestershire to deliver a design, build, finance and operate transaction in order to create the new student village at their Pittville Campus.
The project comprised of the refurbishment of 214 existing bedrooms over the summer term of 2016, the provision of a new student village incorporating 577 new-build student bedrooms and the refurbishment of the existing media centre which will contain the main reception/security desk, a gym, retail facility, multi-faith area, refectory and bar, quiet study area, launderette and ancillary office space for the university.
The university has more than 10,000 students of which nearly 10% are international from more than 44 different countries. The build and refurbishment was integral to the University of Gloucestershire’s strategic commitment to be centred around students.
