Bouygues UK Opens its Doors
That’s a wrap on Open Doors for 2023. This year, four of our sites from across the UK took part and over 70 visitors signed up for our sessions.
Build UK’s Open Doors events took place across the country last week. Open to anyone, they are a fantastic opportunity for communities to go behind site hoardings and find out more about the world of construction.
We are thrilled to have received so many of members of the public as well as some of our partners to our sites last week, giving them an insight into how our projects are progressing and shedding light on what working in the industry is really like.
At our Open Doors event on our Ebury Bridge site, we welcomed our client Westminster City Council and partners Build UK, Considerate Constructors Scheme and CITB, who joined the presentation and site tour along with the delegates. Ebury Bridge is the biggest delivery of new affordable homes in South Westminster in over 50 years, so an excellent project to showcase through Open Doors.
Jo Fautley, Deputy Chief Executive at Build UK, who joined us at Ebury Bridge said,
It was fantastic to see behind the hoardings of such a major project and the passion showed by Bouygues UK is just what we need to inspire other people to join the industry.
Our event at 71/72 The Kingsway was also a huge success, with members of the public booking visits across our three events. On Friday 17th March, the team welcomed students from the University of South Wales Trinity St David’s as well as Senedd Member and Minister for Climate Change, Julie James, and CITB Cymru Engagement Director, Julia Stevens. Our project for Swansea Council will transform the area, providing space for 600 jobs. The five-storey development will be carbon zero in operation and worth £32.6 million a year to Swansea’s economy. We hope that by giving the public an opportunity to see this transformation in progress, they will understand just how important this project is for their community and inspire them to play an active part in our future developments.
John Boughton, Managing Director for Bouygues UK in Wales, said:
A career in construction is a lot more than just working on site, although for many of us it’s the part we enjoy the most, and hosting events like Open Doors is so pivotal to encourage the next generation to consider it as a career.
Inviting young people on site to see the work we are doing is a great way of showing the diversity of roles available in the sector and how by working in construction you are literally building the cities and towns of the future. By opening our doors at Kingsway, I hope we inspired the quantity surveyors, architects and site managers of the future.
If you share our passion to help communities to live, learn and thrive through the projects we deliver, we want you to join us and be part of our journey to build a better future. Click here to find out more!
