Bouygues UK lands luxury hotel in Shoreditch

Bouygues UK has confirmed a £26.6m contract to deliver the first UK venture from the man behind Gansevoort Hotel Group: a new boutique hotel set to debut in London’s fashionable Shoreditch area.

The new 120-room luxury hotel will boast a rooftop pool and a lounge complex overlooking the capital’s financial district. It will also incorporate six suites, 24-hour fitness facilities, including a spa and hammam, and more than 6,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

The hotel will be located at 45 Curtain Road in Shoreditch, where two years ago archaeologists unearthed the remains of the Tudor-era Curtain Theatre.

Michael Achenbaum, the driving force behind the project, said:  “We’ve identified fantastic partners for this project and we’re excited to be bringing a new brand and eclectic energy to the area.”

Bouygues UK’s Managing Director for Construction in London and the South East, Arnaud Bekaert, said: “We are proud to have been chosen to collaborate with Michael Achenbaum as he launches his new – and first – hotel here in the UK. Michael is known for his signature lifestyle concepts and I’ve no doubt this new hotel will be equally as popular, as well as diversifying his portfolio of urban retreats for discerning guests and bringing his unique style to a unique urban area within the capital.”

Michael Achenbaum adds: “We want to give patrons a brand experience that will serve the local population and meet growing demand from surrounding areas. As always, we will create a sense of place for the community that will stimulate exciting encounters for local residents and a cosmopolitan set of hotel guests.”

Architects Dexter Moren Associates and interior design group Design DMU have also been brought on as part of the collaboration.

Achenbaum’s first hotel, in Manhattan, created a distinctive urban resort concept sparking the rebirth of the Meatpacking District as a fashionable hub; a feat he hopes to replicate in Shoreditch with his new hotel.

The project scheduled for completion in summer 2016.
