Head of Social Value Hosts Southwark Construction Forum

28/09/2023

This week, our Head of Social Value, Jeff Joseph hosted and chaired a construction forum for contractors and developers working on and around the Old Kent Road in Southwark alongside Andrew Eke, Chair of the Tustin Community Association (TCA).

The forum assembled contractors, developers, members from the TCA and Southwark Council, consultants, the Department for Work and Pensions, Jobcentre Plus, Southwark Skills Centre, local businesses and subcontractors as well as the Mayor of Southwark, Michael Situ. Together, discussion was had around how contractors and developers can work more collaboratively to bring best practice to the Old Kent Road area and maximise opportunities for local stakeholders.

Amanda Harrison, Social Value Advisor at Bouygues UK, commented “it is wonderful to be part of this initiative. Let’s work together to harness change.” This was endorsed by Andrew Eke, whose vision is for Tustin Estate to be “pioneering, exemplar, whilst leaving a legacy.” The Mayor spoke passionately about embracing the community and ensuring that opportunities are offered to all, considering the volume of work available across Southwark.

Bouygues UK will continue to drive the forum and host sessions with guest speakers to promote best practice. We will further encourage other contractors and developers to open up their sites for visits so that, collectively, we can make a change and develop strategic alliances with the aim of working intelligently and efficiently to deliver the Council’s housing targets and ensure a bright future for Southwark.
