St David’s Day Breakfast
Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus | Happy St David’s Day!
This morning, we hosted a lively breakfast event celebrating all of the work we do in Wales. With guest speaker Philippa Tuttiett, a special performance from Pencoedtre High School Choir and well over 100 people in attendance, the event was a huge success.
Wales is a key region for us at Bouygues UK and St David’s Day is a fantastic opportunity for us to recognise this and the hard work of our colleagues in the region.
It was a pleasure to welcome Philippa Tuttiett, the face of Welsh Women’s rugby. Since her playing retirement, she has become a fan favourite in the commentary box and one of the most respected female pundits in the world.
Her long career led to her becoming one of the highest capped Welsh international Sevens players, representing her country on the World Sevens Series and then achieving her dream of captaining Wales at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Philippa is the epitome of perseverance, not letting injury define her and overcoming a career threatening heart murmur which she still has to closely monitor today. Her talk was very pertinent for our audience as she shared that her father has his own construction company. Evidently, she didn’t choose to follow this career path, instead choosing to study Marketing & Communications at University before discovering her passion for rugby during her time there. The rest is history!
Speaking passionately about playing for her club and country as well as the hurdles she has had to overcome, Philippa shared the importance of resilience, passion and drive. These are qualities we see in all our staff and her messaging resounded with all the attendees at today’s breakfast.
We also recognised Llamau, the leading homelessness charity in Wales, who we have supported for a number of years. An impressive £1220 was raised at the event and this will be match funded by our guests from Lloyds Bank. We are so grateful to all those who contributed and given our close work with Llamau, we know how far this donation will go.
We look forward to next year’s event!
