The process of collaboratively developing information in a virtual environment to design, construct and manage a building throughout its entire lifecycle, Building Information Modelling (BIM) gathers project knowledge in a digital format to create a live, real-time library specific to that project in one central location.
Bouygues UK’s implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) optimises the design, build and operate processes. We recognise that the efficiency of collaboratively developing information in a virtual environment results in better, faster and optimised buildings as well as increased competitiveness.
Our clients reap the benefits of a project designed within the BIM environment, be it engaging with the early stage conceptual model and the production of the ‘as built model’ or ‘asset information model’ upon practical completion.
The conceptual model allows clients to visualise the building within the 3D environment before commencement of works on site. This also allows the client/end user to make informed decisions regarding the future operation and maintenance of the scheme. Once practical completion has been reached, clients can then use the model to monitor, operate and maintain the assets contained within the facility.
BIM has been implemented on numerous projects at Bouygues UK, ranging from educational projects, residential developments through to large PFI hospital schemes. We have invested heavily in resources to develop tools, protocols and expertise in the domains of 3D (design, augmented reality, virtual reality), 4D (programming), 5D (quantities and costing) and 6D (operational costs, life cycle costs, carbon emission).
BIM has significantly changed the way we deliver our projects for the better. We strive to be at the forefront of the industry in the deployment of BIM and will continue to ensure that we are best positioned to respond to the Government’s Construction 2025 strategy.
